Paul improves your driving ability

First time 5 minors!

Well done Richard for passing your driving test FIRST time with only 5 minors at the Lee-On-The-Solent test centre. Fantastic result.

Richard says:

Richards says:  “I feel that the way in which Paul teaches is very thorough as he teaches you different scenarios. This is very beneficial to the first time driver as not only does it teach you to pass the test but improves your driving ability. I feel that this thorough natures is what helped me get through my test first time after only 17 hours of lessons and for this I feel that Paul would be an excellent first choice for any one looking to learn to drive.

Lanes on roundabouts

The purpose of this article is to help some of my pupils who get confused by the lanes on roundabouts: particularly the  Peel Common roundabout at Lee-on-the-solent. You know who you are! lol

This roundabout is often quite busy and so cars on the roundabout can be moving quite fast. Speed of approach and looking well in advance to the right is key!

The problem for some pupils, is that once on this particular roundabout, its very easy to accidentally straddle lanes as they change – which is very confusing especially when you are  not quite sure where you are going.

On Approach

The good news is, thanks to Google Maps I will take you virtual journey around this particular roundabout.

We are approaching from Lee-On-The-Solent and heading towards Gosport.

“At the roundabout head for Gosport”

As you approach decide the direction and choose your lane – your going to Gosport so right hand lane. ( The sign is a bit confusing because it shows Gosport straight on!)

Start your mirror signal routine about here and as you approach in the right hand lane slow down to about 20 mph and select second gear.

Look

As you approach the roundabout start looking early to the right

As you get closer decide whether you need to slow down further to about 10 mph and maybe select first gear.

As you can see below, the left hand lane is clearly marked for Fareham so you want the right-hand inner lane of the roundabout.

Entering the roundabout

If it safe to emerge get in the right hand inside lane of the roundabout.

As you pass the left exit to Stubbington and as you approach where the road from Stubbington joins,  the Gosport lane starts to move left and a new lane on the inside of the roundabout begins (which will take you to Lee-On-The-Solent) – not where we are going!

Therefore, stay in the lane, don’t cross the line and you will end up in Gosport not Lee!

As you pass the exit left to Fareham, this is a good point to cancel your right indicator. You are now on the outside of the roundabout ( the middle lane as show here)

As you pass where the road from fareham to Lee joins the roundabout keep in the left hand lane as the right hand lane takes you around to Lee-On-The-Solent.

In addition, as you pass don’t confused by the dotted lines crossing your path- keep going straight on in the left hand lane and you can proceed safely to Gosport.  I hope that helped!
