I offer driving instructor training!

Want a challenging and rewarding career helping other people succeed? Maybe driving instruction is for you?

Why me?

I trained with a large corporate company who charged me a large amount of money to train with them. To be honest – the training wasn’t very good and even though they got me qualified – I didn’t have all the skills and knowledge I needed – and have now. I want to help you avoid that!

No upfront cost

So, before you commit to a large financial outlay; why not try a few pay-as-you-go lessons with me and find out whether this is a career you would really enjoy?

Train you to BE an instructor

I’m not going to train you just to pass your part 1,2,3. I will help you all the way. In fact, I’m looking for new instructors to join my company and expand First Class Driver Training in the future.

Topics you will learn:

  • How to pass the theory test.
  • Gaining the driving skills you need for the part 2 test.
  • Effective coaching and teaching skills.
  • How and when to use the dual controls.
  • Understanding pupil learning styles.
  • Great customer service values.
  • Planning and recording your lessons
  • Effective communication on the move.
  • How to design your training routes
  • Handling risk.
  • Effective questioning.
  • Difficult pupils
  • Issues with other drivers.
  • Older and experienced drivers.
  • Training using a Sat Nav.

  • Preparing your pupil for test.
  • Teaching pass plus and motorway lessons
  • How to pass your first check test.

“With Paul you don’t get only an instructor, but a friend as well. I did with Paul mock tests and it gave me confidence to feel ready for the final test.”

“After I pass the practical driving test, together with Paul I did Pass Plus, and that will help me as a new driver with my insurance and also gave me a lot of confidence to drive on the motorway. Thank you Paul, for believing in me.”

Great results

Great results!

The summer months are busy ones for the driving instructor and June is proving both busy and productive with 4 passes so far!

Laurence

Laurence had a few lessons a while back with the AA but came to me after excepting a job requiring a driving license. Laurence passed FIRST time with 9 minors after 28 hrs of lessons with me.

“I would 100% recommend Paul Noble as a driving instructor. I had to get a first time pass and quickly as I had to start work promptly, which I was able to achieve.

Paul is easy to get along with, patient, calm and a likeable person. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending him.”

Trudy

Trudy started with me after having lessons for a while in a different area of the country. Unfortunately, she failed her driving test and stopped for a while. As she moved into my area, her friend at work – one of my pupils – recommended me and after completing 12 hours of lessons to prepare for test – passed with only 5 minors!

Learning to drive?

Learning to drive – how long does it take?

The first question most people ask when thinking of learning to drive is: how long does it take? This of course largely governs how much its going to cost!

40 hours of tuition

learning to drive

Dean Hooper 5 minors 3/06/2016

The short answer is: learning to drive is a life-time learning process. However, in terms of reaching a sufficient standard to pass a driving test, it’s around 40 hours of lessons with a professional instructor.

Indeed, I find that the breakthrough point is usually around thirty hours. Any less than this, and a pupil, no matter how talented, will lack the experience necessary to handle the pressure of the driving test and additionally, not have the experience necessary to drive safely on Britain’s roads.

My parents passed in 10 hrs!

Of course, this figure is often challenged by the pupil’s parents, as they remember (creatively perhaps) that a few decades ago it only took them 10 hrs  of tuition to pass a driving test. So why can’t my Johnny do the same! In fact, as far as I remember – it was a long time ago – I think I only had seven driving lessons before passing first time! The major difference though, was, that  even though cars were allot harder to drive – without mod-cons such as power steering and such like  – the driving test was far easier to pass because roads were simpler and there was far less traffic on the roads. The majority of drivers on the roads today probably wouldn’t pass a driving test!

Theory test

Now pupils have to pass a comprehensive multi-choice theory test with a syllabus of 1600 questions. In addition, they have to successfully complete a hazard perception test which involves watching short clips of video and clicking a computer mouse in response to viewed hazards. Those who don’t revise for this exam normally fail. Both parts of the exam have to be successfully  passed before a practical driving test can be booked.

Going back to the question!

Going back to the question though, it’s best to plan for forty hours of tuition: which is a time-scale of about 5 months – if you have a 2 hr lesson every week. Of course, if you can afford it, you can speed up the process by doing an intensive course

Lanes on roundabouts

The purpose of this article is to help some of my pupils who get confused by the lanes on roundabouts: particularly the  Peel Common roundabout at Lee-on-the-solent. You know who you are! lol

This roundabout is often quite busy and so cars on the roundabout can be moving quite fast. Speed of approach and looking well in advance to the right is key!

The problem for some pupils, is that once on this particular roundabout, its very easy to accidentally straddle lanes as they change – which is very confusing especially when you are  not quite sure where you are going.

On Approach

The good news is, thanks to Google Maps I will take you virtual journey around this particular roundabout.

We are approaching from Lee-On-The-Solent and heading towards Gosport.

“At the roundabout head for Gosport”

As you approach decide the direction and choose your lane – your going to Gosport so right hand lane. ( The sign is a bit confusing because it shows Gosport straight on!)

Screen Shot 2015-07-11 at 11.51.25

Start your mirror signal routine about here and as you approach in the right hand lane slow down to about 20 mph and select second gear.

Look

As you approach the roundabout start looking early to the right

Screen Shot 2015-07-11 at 12.22.27

As you get closer decide whether you need to slow down further to about 10 mph and maybe select first gear.

Screen Shot 2015-07-11 at 12.24.22

As you can see below, the left hand lane is clearly marked for Fareham so you want the right-hand inner lane of the roundabout.

Screen Shot 2015-07-11 at 13.00.52

Entering the roundabout

If it safe to emerge get in the right hand inside lane of the roundabout.

Screen Shot 2015-07-11 at 13.01.12

As you pass the left exit to Stubbington and as you approach where the road from Stubbington joins,  the Gosport lane starts to move left and a new lane on the inside of the roundabout begins (which will take you to Lee-On-The-Solent) – not where we are going!

Therefore, stay in the lane, don’t cross the line and you will end up in Gosport not Lee!

Screen Shot 2015-07-11 at 12.24.58

As you pass the exit left to Fareham, this is a good point to cancel your right indicator. You are now on the outside of the roundabout ( the middle lane as show here)

Screen Shot 2015-07-11 at 12.25.17

As you pass where the road from fareham to Lee joins the roundabout keep in the left hand lane as the right hand lane takes you around to Lee-On-The-Solent.

Screen Shot 2015-07-11 at 12.25.28

In addition, as you pass don’t confused by the dotted lines crossing your path- keep going straight on in the left hand lane and you can proceed safely to Gosport.  I hope that helped!

Best result this year!

First time pass and zero minors!!!

best resultBest result this year! Well done Nial for achieving clean sheet of ZERO minors and a FIRST time pass  at the Lee-On-The-Solent test centre.

Nial says of my coaching: “I thoroughly enjoyed all stages of learning up to the test. Due to initially learning in the dark, under Paul’s guidance, it helped me concentrate. For the test the crucial advice  for myself was conveyed in an easy way leading to a first time pass”-

Outstanding pupil and result.

Why quality matters

There are plenty of instructors around offering cheap lessons but in the end you get what you pay for. Look at my results this year and think of how much money these pupils actually saved because they achieved their goal quickly!
